Qantas Boosts Rome Flights with Extended Season for 2026
Qantas is enhancing travel options for Australians heading to Rome by extending its seasonal Perth-Rome flights and adding more weekly services in 2026.
This expansion nearly doubles the airline’s capacity, offering greater convenience and flexibility for travellers. The move strengthens connections between Australia and Europe, making it easier for tourists and families to explore iconic destinations.
Extended Perth-Rome Service
Starting May 3 and running until October 23, Qantas will extend its Perth-Rome route by eight weeks, covering the northern summer.
The airline will also increase flights from three to four per week during peak season, adding over 40 extra services and nearly 10,000 seats.
This extended schedule spans late spring to early autumn, giving travellers more opportunities to experience Rome’s charm and connect to other parts of Italy and Europe.
Since launching the nonstop Perth-Rome flight in 2022—the first direct service between Australia and continental Europe—Qantas has carried over 70,000 passengers.
This route offers the fastest way for Australians to reach Rome. It simplifies travel for Europeans visiting Australia, with Perth as their entry point.
The service’s popularity reflects its convenience, with evening departures from Perth allowing passengers to wake up in Rome refreshed.
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace highlighted the route’s appeal. “Rome is one of Europe’s most iconic destinations, and our nonstop flight is a favourite among customers.”
“Over half of our Rome passengers come from Australia’s east coast. Our flights are timed to connect seamlessly with domestic services in Perth.”

Wallace added that the expanded capacity will allow more Australians to enjoy Qantas’ nonstop European routes. These boast some of the highest customer satisfaction scores in the airline’s international network.
“Our long-haul flights from Perth are transforming travel for Western Australia. There are nearly 300,000 seats connecting major European capitals like London, Paris, and Rome in 2026,” he said.
Beyond Rome, Qantas operates international flights from Perth to London, Paris, Singapore, and, starting December 2025, Johannesburg and Auckland.
These routes position Perth as a key hub for global travel, benefiting both tourists and Western Australians with international ties.
Western Australia Welcomes Boost
Western Australia Premier Roger Cook praised the expanded service. “My government is focused on connecting Perth and WA to the world through direct flights, with 20 nonstop routes now available. The Perth-Rome flights have brought thousands of visitors to WA, from tourists to those with family connections in Italy.”
He emphasized that the additional seats in 2026 reinforce WA’s role as Australia’s gateway from Europe, supporting economic diversification.
WA Tourism Minister Reece Whitby echoed this enthusiasm. “This is a major win for Western Australia, bringing thousands more visitors and strengthening our position as Australia’s Western Gateway.”
“The longer season and extra flights make it easier for Europeans to explore WA’s attractions while boosting our tourism economy.”
Whitby noted that securing more direct flights enhances ties with key markets like Italy, encouraging travellers to discover the state’s unique offerings.
This expansion signals Qantas’ commitment to meeting growing demand for travel to Europe while positioning Western Australia as a vital link between Australia and the world.
With more flights and a longer season, 2026 promises to be a landmark year for travel to Rome.
