At 38,000 feet, just before landing at 4:15 p.m. local time (UTC-5), the plane hit severe turbulence near Memphis. Two flight attendants were injured.
The aircraft landed safely but was grounded for nearly 20 hours for safety inspections. It returned to service shortly after, suggesting no major damage.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted the injuries, but the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has not launched an investigation, indicating the injuries were likely minor. No passengers were reported injured during the inflight event.
Flight AA2561: Rough Skies to Philadelphia

Two days later, on June 8, American Airlines flight AA2561, an Airbus A319-100 registered N730US, faced similar trouble. Departing Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) at 7:50 a.m., the flight was en route to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) when it encountered severe turbulence.
One flight attendant was injured. The plane landed safely in Philadelphia at 11:32 a.m. local time, ahead of schedule.
Both American Airlines aircraft was quickly returned to service, and, as with flight AA37, the NTSB has not announced an investigation, suggesting the injury was minor. Again, no passenger injuries were reported.

Inflight Turbulence Encounters
Turbulence remains a leading cause of in-flight injuries, especially for crew members who are often moving about the cabin. The FAA is actively monitoring such incidents to improve turbulence prediction and prevention.
