Lockheed’s Takeoff: Serving War and Commerce (1940-1967)
A significant shift occurred in 1940 when the Lockheed Corporation, a major player in the aviation industry with a production facility nearby, purchased the airport.
Renamed Lockheed Air Terminal, the airport played a vital role in World War II.
Lockheed significantly expanded the facilities to accommodate the production and testing of military aircraft, contributing to the war effort.

Hollywood-Burbank Airport thrived during this period, becoming a popular choice for regional flights due to its convenient location and smaller size compared to LAX.

Evolving Identity: Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena and Bob Hope Airport (1978-2017)
The late 1970s saw another name change to Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport, reflecting the participation of surrounding cities in its governance.
This period also witnessed the rise of low-cost carriers, making air travel more accessible to a wider range of passengers.
In 2003, the airport was officially named Bob Hope Airport in honor of the legendary comedian and entertainer Bob Hope, a longtime resident of the area.

Back to the Future: Rebranding as Hollywood Burbank Airport (2017-Present)
Recognizing the limitations of the “Bob Hope Airport” moniker, officials rebranded the airport as Hollywood Burbank Airport in 2017.
